“just setting up my twttr”. Take a look at this remarkable story!

Take a look at the image above. Feels familiar? Maybe not. This was what Twitter looked like many years ago. Twitter’s Minimal Viable Product (MVP) may appear different than the platform we now know, but that’s how they started.

Another flashback! Do you remember “just setting up my twttr” tweet? This is the very first tweet, sent by Jack Dorsey, founder of Twitter. And it was this tweet that started everything.  Read on for the remarkable story!

Twitter’s MVP Stage

Twitter, initially named “twttr”, was founded by a group of developers in 2006 as an internal SMS communication channel that could be accessed by employees of podcasting company Odeo.

Twitter’s early users were a small community of colleagues which meant the product could be tested and improved according to feedback.

However, at the early MVP stage, Twitter did not have its current features “reply”, “retweet”, “DM” or “hashtag”. The platform was a sharing service where users would simply answer the question: “What are you doing?”. This simplicity allowed Twitter to focus on its initial goal during the MVP stage.

Rise of Twitter

Twitter gained recognition when it received the “best startup” award during a public conference in 2007. As it grew, Twitter continued to value user feedback just as it did in the MVP stage and added user-driven functionalities like “retweet” and “hashtag”.

Today

Now, Twitter is one of the most popular social media platforms on the planet, with hundreds of millions of users, serves both individual users and businesses. It is used for a wide variety of purposes: for fun, sharing ideas, reading news, learning from others, business advertising and many more.
